40: Take Up Some Space
Join us as w sit down for a rare kid-free lunch and open up about their evolving style journeys in this refreshingly candid conversation that feels like eavesdropping on your best friends.
Tajuana kicks things off sharing her rediscovered love for Lane Bryant and newfound obsession with Spanx – not just their shapewear, but their entire clothing line. She raves about pull-over bras that eliminate the annoyance of hooks, ultra-comfortable thongs, and versatile clothing options that have transformed her daily wardrobe. Meanwhile, Sheree reveals how she's embracing her prescription glasses as a fashion statement, rotating between four different pairs to complement her outfits rather than seeing them as just a necessity. Breakthrough moments that highlight how their style evolutions represents something deeper – a journey toward self-acceptance and the courage to take up space without apology.
Between bites of spicy Brussels sprouts and sips of cocktails, the sisters also touch on natural hair journeys, perfume discoveries, and the challenges of keeping up with children's seasonal wardrobes. The conversation feels both intimate and universal, capturing that special magic that happens when women create space to be fully themselves. Whether you're considering your own style reset or simply enjoy authentic sister talk, this episode reminds us that fashion isn't frivolous – it's a powerful form of self-expression and self-care. Hey guys, welcome back to Turn the Page podcast.
Speaker 1:This is Cherie, one of your co-hosts, and I just wanted to do a special little intro for this one. This is part one of a two-part series. My sister Twana and I went to lunch and recorded our conversation, so bear with us with the audio and the content. We are doing our best to bring you guys real and authentic live from a random restaurant and in true page sister fashion, we just jump right in. So enjoy. All right, we are doing. Thank you, we are going to do Rosebud Thorn Rose that we got to hang out with, just us. No, kids Never get to do that rarely. Yeah, the thorn? I don't know. I've just been struggling with anxiety lately trying to figure that out. The bud I do feel some growth that I've been having lately. Nothing specific, just I feel myself getting better at certain things. Nice, I usually come a little bit more prepared, but it's fine. My rose is probably the same Kid, free time and getting tattoos. My bud something I'm grateful for. Um, oh, my gosh, the nice weather it's been. It's been so nice and it's been a game changer for me. Um, mood wise, you know, anxiety still likes to linger. Um, and that's probably my thorn as well um, just been in anxiety paralysis. We have a move coming up and I get really overwhelmed and don't know how to start things. So, but we're here and we're making progress. So today we're talking about we have to do a this or that. That's for the next one. Okay, because, so we don't have to do a rosebud. Okay, you're right, you're right, you're right.
Speaker 1:And the word of the day yes, okay, okay, guys, we said we were starting the word of the day. The word of the day today is Vogue. So the day today is Vogue. So Vogue yeah, I'm reading it from her phone, so forgive my delay. So loud.
Speaker 1:Vogue is a current state of general acceptance and use in the popular taste at a given time, interesting. When I think Vogue, I think the magazine, but I think that's why it's named that, because it's like what's trendy or what's like fashionable, oh, okay, okay, oh yeah, I guess taste in the form of like style or like what's happening, yeah, yeah, don't ask us to use it in a sentence, please don't. Okay. So today we're talking about style. Yeah, speaking of Okay, so we are talking about style and how I know. A few episodes ago, we talked about, like, redoing our style and we wanted to give you an update about that. Now that it is spring, the weather is getting warmer, oh, you might be able to hear it when we put this out, but there's lots of cars out and people, but we are live and this is just where we are. We could do this without the kids around.
Speaker 1:Um, so I did like a not a really well, kind of like a revamp, revamp. I cleaned my drawers out a couple days ago, like almost a week ago, yes, yes, and I have been hooked on one brand and then re-hooked on another brand. The new brand for me is Spanx. Oh, yes, um, they don't just make um stockings anymore. Sarah Blakely has expanded to clothing and they have these amazing bras that I love. They're reversible so you can wear them inside and then the other way. Oh, and I don't like. I come to realize I don't like hooks anymore because they come out, they come undone behind my back, oh, yeah, yeah. So I'm into like sports bras, but not fully sports bras, but anything I can just like slide over my head and I don't have to worry about hooking and I'm wearing it now. I love it. It's so soft.
Speaker 1:And then I'm also loving their underwear. This might be a little tmi, but we're telling the truth here. I love their thongs. They're super soft and they're like a little bit thicker, but like you can, you can't even tell that you have them on and they're amazing. And talk about their clothes. I love their shirts, their pants, just everything. I love it. Um, it was in our newsletter for April. I've also shared a few more, but if you want to sign up for the newsletter, it's free. It's on our Instagram at TurnThePagePod, and we'll also put it in the show notes for how to sign up. And then I also have been rehubbed on Lane Bryant. Yes, love it so much.
Speaker 1:I'm wearing cute pants today. They're a little big, which is good for me. Um, I ordered jeans. I was gonna wear the wide leg jeans today, but I decided not to. We would have been twins.
Speaker 1:Yes, jeans, and I have. I got a romper from them, and then I also have like a bunch of the dresses that I've gotten before. Wait, do they call it a play suit? No, I think that they call rompers or jumpsuits. Place what do you like? Play in them or, like you, go out on the ground? I don't know, but I don't know.
Speaker 1:Um, and then also, what else have I been revamping? Nothing, but I've just or not nothing, but I have been loving, primarily pure, their everything spray. Oh, I have seen you post. Oh my gosh, I love it. I use it um morning and evening and I use it as like a face toner. It is absolutely amazing. And I love their lip oil. I just started using that. It's absolutely amazing. I will also put that. I'll link that in the show notes, but I've also shared it on turn the page pot. It also tea time. What is my Instagram? Yes, tea timed out to wanna. Sorry guys, whoa, you have both. We run both.
Speaker 1:So, um, that, and then I kind of want to get new rings. I don't know, I'm just playing around with stuff and because it's spring, I'm kind of feeling like a little feisty. Yeah, it's the weather for it. Grab your play suits, you know, it's that kind of that kind of vibe.
Speaker 1:Yep, I, my revamping style has been more like accessorizing. Um, because now that I'm in my 30s and tasked with wearing glasses and fabulous every day thank you so much. Um, well, I figured why not shake it up a little bit, like it's hard to wear makeup sometimes with glasses, but if I can make the glasses unique or whatever. So, friend of the pod, mom friend, good friend, community member gave me a link for Z-Lol, z-lol, thank you. Okay, thank you. Oh, that's the glasses brand, right? Yes, yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Um, so, yeah, so you go on, you like pick your frames, you put in your prescription and then the beer, thank you.
Speaker 1:And um, I've gotten four pairs now. Oh, wow, I didn't know it was that much. Yeah, that many. I switch them probably every day.
Speaker 1:Just depending on nice, you have a rose. I've gotten four pairs now. Oh wow, I didn't know it was that much. Yeah, that many. I switch them probably every day, just depending on the vibe of my outfits. Oh nice, you have a rose gold pair on today. Yes, it matches my shirt. Oh, so you're one of those bougie people matching your glasses with your? Just right now. I'm down for that. I only have four. I'm trying a little mascara here and there. Yes, me too. It dries my contacts out, so I don't wear it a lot, but sometimes I get in the mood. Oh also, sorry, go ahead, finish. I have something else I just thought about. Um, what else have I been trying?
Speaker 1:I think just not necessarily buying new things, but just trying new things. Like today I'm in a crop top and wide leg jeans. It's giving like young girl style, which I love, uh, because I am in my 30s. But you know, I don't know, I feel like that used to feel so old and grown and like you have your shit together, psa, I don't. You don't? Um, I do not, yeah, but it's fun to shake things up and just connect with your youthful side. We'll call it healing my inner child. I would never wear like a crop top or wide leg jeans growing up because I was so worried about how my body looked in it, giving the world what like it's gonna get whatever body I give. It is what I'm trying to say. That's where I'm at. That's where I'm at in life right now. I just don't care. It takes so much energy to care and I want to like, enjoy things and have fun and not let that take me away from stuff. So this is part of it. We're trying new things. It's nice out, we're dressing for the weather. We're not covering up, we're not hiding, we're not playing small. You know, okay, we're taking up space.
Speaker 1:I thought about something else. Yes, I had perfume. Oh, yeah, it was. I think it was Victoria's Secret. I got it from Amazon. Then I went to try something different. You know, to spice things up, friend and community member told me about the Jimmy Choo perfume. Oh, talk about bougie. I mean it was from Amazon. I mean it's still real. It's Jimmy Choo something. When I think of it, I will put it in the show notes. I bet it's like desire, but no, it's not.
Speaker 1:My oldest has told me twice in a row that I smell good and I've had it on. That's the top tier compliment you could ever ask for. I'm a five-year-old. He said it smells like coconut and it kind of has like pints of coconut? I believe not. I mean, I'm no smell connoisseur, but it's so good.
Speaker 1:Um, the victoria's secret one I think it was a roll-on, and this one you spray it. I like the roll-on, so that I do. I do, but I'm feeling so great in it. Um, I've been ordering a bunch of tank tops from amazon, like every color or wear out. The arms are out this summer. The ones I'm wearing now, yes, the arms are out. Yes, and yeah, just living life to its absolute fullest.
Speaker 1:We're currently, I mean, real life. We're eating I'm eating an appetizer right now Brussels sprouts. They're so good. Yum, I'm stealing one of these, please do. They're so good. Yeah, um, I'm stealing one of these, please do. Guys, I feel like we're just having like a. You're sitting down to brunch with us, sister's lunch, oh, and pull up a seat when we're here. When I'm done chewing, I have another one. Oh, also, guys, where we are. We're not disclosing our location, obviously, but, guys, you people who know us, you know where we are.
Speaker 1:But we came to get tattoos and before we came to this town that we're in, we didn't realize why there were this many people here. It's because, because it's a festival today. We didn't know about this blank town festival. All these streets are closed, but parking everywhere is the same price it's $5, so we just parked in our normal spot. But yeah, we were going to record in the library. Obviously, we're just going to be a little quieter, but you know what, giving summer-spring vibes, let's record at a restaurant. We're going to record on the rooftop, but it's for a private event that we weren't invited to, so we're doing it right now. It's like garage doors and windows, which I think is pretty sweet, but we are looking at the library. So I feel like that's kind of like authentic I don't know if that's the word On brand, yeah. Yeah, that's kind of like authentic. I don't know if that's the word On brand, yeah. Yeah, a lot of things went unplanned today, but we have been going with the flow and making it work.
Speaker 1:The other thing I was going to say is my hair. I'm stepping into like the natural hair. I am loving the styling, like I loved the twist. It's my favorite style ever, but I don't get it again for a few more weeks. So I just had to take the other ones out because they were getting furzy um, and now I'm just kind of fending for myself, styling it on my own, but it's fun, thanks. I'm enjoying figuring out what products my hair likes and I need it doing that. I know I used to, but I think after this last experience because it was so positive yeah I'm wanting to find more, because the braids are great. They're easy, they're convenient. They take so long though. They took long to put in, they took long to take out. So I think I kind of want things in between to bridge, bridge the gap a little bit and just get used to my hair. Like, if it's always in braids, how am I gonna learn how to take care of it? So, yeah, we're on a natural hair crop top glasses journey right now.
Speaker 1:Some brussels. You know I hate brussels, so I don't like them either. But I like them when they're in stuff or like when they're mixed with things. We can't get past the like cabbagey taste of them, so they are in the mixed with things. We can't get past the like cabbagey taste of them, so they are in the cabbage family. Right, I don't, I don't like cabbage at all. Thank you, thank you. Okay, thank you so much. You guys need anything else? Oh no, thank you. We're good but quick. I do love them when they are mainly with bacon, because that's what I like. Now they are with, like saved parmesan cheese and like this red chili stuff. They're so good. It's like fire roasted. What is it fire roasted? Oh yeah, so good guys. So good um, what are? Um? I can't believe it's.
Speaker 1:May I know she's gonna ask what is your style plan for summer? Are we rocking shorts? Are we rocking? It's so hard with work. Yeah, I can't wear shorts to work. I don't know about shorts. I still have a pair from last year. What about you? I think they're called paper bag, oh, so they're like.
Speaker 1:High waist, oh, um, do you love a high waist cut? Yeah, those have been my go-to for the past few years. Or just some biker shorts, the 90s girl at heart, oh, I will say Spanx has the best leggings If you are blessed in the back, like I am. If you have bigger girlies up top, let's be both, though, yeah, be careful when it's windy. The amount of times my crop top has flown up. So either wear the girls, don't weigh down, no, they like make it stick out a little bit more, so there's like just open space. So either wear a crop top cami underneath, which I am today, or just hold it.
Speaker 1:And I'm talking to you guys like you probably aren't pros on crop tops. I know I'm like 20 years late, but I was walking to get dinner the other day and it was windy and it blew up and under and my shirt was like so, okay, yeah, just be warned. But the spanks leggings, the booty booster, I don't need them, the boost, booty boost part. But they are so comfortable they suck everything in and they don't give me a camel toe like a lot of them do. Great love that, um. So yes, they're quite, they're quite pricey, but they're worth the 98 dollars. That's been my right, just like how much they are, and but you can return those ones. So the ones that are on sale you can return. But I started buying the full price so that I can know what size I am. Then buy all the ones that are on sale.
Speaker 1:I'm wondering if that changes with age, that you are willing to pay more for like good quality stuff, because right now I mean yeah, absolutely, not calling you old, but you know what I'm saying like, yeah, right now I'm like that's too much. I just either won't get it or I'll find a cheaper version in every sense of the word. I think you just realize that, like, we were gonna go to this other place because I also originally wanted tacos, but I bought this place but I really wanted to drink and they didn't have a drink and I was like it's, you know, the food's less expensive, but I was like I want a drink, so I'm gonna pay more. And green carol, yep, we have drinks. Now we have drinks. I have a blue moon. I'm on beer, girly, um, you have a, it's a, um, um, hawaiian something, mimosa, it's like pineapple juice, grenadine, oh, vodka maybe. Okay, I was going to get something else that sounded so good but it had tequila and, if you know me, tequila is reserved for occasions such as, like getting married. Oh, you did say, oh, sorry, that's tequila. Yeah, I was like we're not trying to turn up at 3 o'clock. I mean, if you are, by all means, we're prior to you, yeah, but we I mean us who have children to return home to, yeah, and the rest of the day to function.
Speaker 1:Speaking of children, children I've also started buying their spring and summer wardrobes. Oh god, that's my least favorite thing. Same, I love it actually. I like it, I like buying this stuff, but I'm like nothing from last year's gonna fit, oh yeah, I know, as soon as it gets warm, you either have to have oh, no, what? Oh, you either have to have the clothes all ready or you have to quickly get them, yeah, or she'll just be like sweating. I brought my girl some new pieces, yeah, thank you Again. Anxiety, paralysis, because this week was the oh no, the first week. It was warm and we were not prepared, so she's been rocking undershirts, but we got some stuff on the way. So, guys, I'm not a fan of Crocs for myself, but I'm a fan of it for the kitties, and Crocs was recently having a sale of it for the kitties and crops is recently having a sale 3 for 75. So I got all three kitties and two kids and my girl, my niecy, some crocs. Hopefully they fit. Mm-hmm, they're super cute, super cute. Guys.
Speaker 1:Brussels sprouts are absolutely amazing. Mm-hmm. Everything's so good. We don't judge, we observe, observe. But that's what we are seeing. They're seeing the street. We're just seeing people, every single person, in their own element. So it's kind of interesting. It is Not in a bad way. Just, you never know what you're going to get. Yep, it's also the festival. So people are also in a different element. Mm-hmm, and again, no judgment. We all live differently, which is very right. No judgment, though.
Speaker 1:These sprouts are so spicy, spicy. What's making them spicy? The chili powder? Oh, I see the flavor, mm-hmm, interesting. Were they cheesy? I thought that wasagues Interesting.
Speaker 1:Were they cheesy? I thought that was bacon. No, I mean shaved parmesan, which is my favorite. What, oh, parmesan Shaved? Yes, um, yeah, oh, quick bit, guys.
Speaker 1:One of my coworkers loves edamame and I had some earlier this week, I think. She, like, heats them up. It's like this big container of them. I could have eaten the whole thing. So good they are good. A little sea salt sprinkled on them, so good guys. But guys, we do know it's kind of loud in here. It's because of where we are, so we want to be conscious of that. We are going to wrap it up any last words. We love a quickie. A quickie, but a goodie, right, right, hopefully you guys get outside this weekend, try something new, something exciting that makes you feel good. Take up some space and we will talk to you soon.
